Getting started
Install and set up GrammarDeck on each device.
Set up on a Mac
- Download GrammarDeck, open the file and drag GrammarDeck into Applications.
- Open GrammarDeck and sign in with Google, Apple or email.
- When asked, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn on GrammarDeck. This lets it read the text you select and paste the fix.
- Select text in any app. Click the green tick at the end of it, or press ⌃ ⌥ G.
Set up on Windows
- Download and run the installer.
- Open GrammarDeck from the Start menu and sign in. It then sits in the tray, near the clock.
- Select text in any app and press Ctrl Alt G. The fix appears next to your text. Click Accept.
Set up on Linux
- Make sure your desktop runs on Xorg. On the login screen, pick the Xorg option (for example “Ubuntu on Xorg”). Wayland does not let apps read the selection.
- Install and open GrammarDeck, then sign in.
- Select text and press Ctrl Alt G.
Set up the iPhone and iPad keyboard
- Install GrammarDeck from the App Store, open it and sign in. The keyboard uses the same account.
- Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose GrammarDeck.
- Tap GrammarDeck in that list and turn on Allow Full Access. iOS needs this before a keyboard can reach the internet to check your text.
- In any app, hold the globe key and pick GrammarDeck. Write your text, tap ✓ Check, then tap a fix or Accept all.
Set up the Android keyboard
- Install GrammarDeck from Google Play, open it and sign in.
- Turn on the keyboard: Settings → System → Keyboard → On-screen keyboard → Manage keyboards, then switch on GrammarDeck. (The exact names differ a little between phone makers.)
- In any app, tap the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen and pick GrammarDeck.
- Write your text, tap ✓ Check, then tap a fix or Accept all.
Set up the browser extension
- Add GrammarDeck from the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons or Firefox Add-ons.
- Pin it to your toolbar, click its icon and sign in.
- Select text on any page and click the GrammarDeck button that appears, right-click and choose GrammarDeck, or press Alt Shift G.
- To change the shortcut in Chrome or Edge, open chrome://extensions/shortcuts (or edge://extensions/shortcuts).
Using GrammarDeck
The basics, answered.
What is GrammarDeck?
A small app that fixes grammar and spelling in whatever app you are writing in. Select your text, click the green tick or press a shortcut, and GrammarDeck shows the corrected text right next to it. Click Accept and it replaces your text.
Which apps does it work in?
On a computer, almost any app where you can select text: Mail, Outlook, Slack, Teams, Word, Notion, Notes, your browser and more. On a phone, the GrammarDeck keyboard works in every app you can type in.
Do you keep or read what I write?
No. Your text is sent only when you ask for a check. It is checked in memory and dropped as soon as the fix comes back. We count how many checks you make, never what they said, and your text is never used to train AI.
Will it rewrite my text?
No. GrammarDeck fixes mistakes and leaves the rest alone. It keeps your meaning, your tone, your line breaks and your emoji. Every change is shown before it is applied, so you stay in control.
Which languages does it support?
English for now. Support for more languages is planned.
What is a credit?
One check or one tone rewrite of up to 50 words costs 1 credit. Longer text costs 1 credit for every 50 words it starts, so 120 words cost 3. The app shows the cost before it checks long text.
What if I run out of credits on Pro?
Pro includes 5,000 credits a month, counted from the day you subscribed, yearly plans too. If you use them all, add a pack of 1,000 credits from your account page. Pack credits are used after your included ones and expire at your next monthly reset. The daily limit of 1,000 credits still applies.
What happens when I reach a limit?
Checks pause until the limit resets: the daily one at midnight UTC, the monthly one on your reset day. Nothing else changes. Upgrade to Pro, or on Pro add credits, if you need more.
Does one Pro subscription cover all my devices?
Yes. Pro belongs to your account, not to a device. Sign in with the same account on your Mac, your PC, your phone and your browser, and Pro works on all of them.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from your account page in one click. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for, and you are not charged again.
Account and billing
Plans, payments, cancelling and refunds.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
In the desktop app, open the Plan tab and click Upgrade to Pro. It opens your account page already signed in. Or sign in on the account page here and pick monthly or yearly.
How do I cancel?
Open the account page and click Cancel renewal. Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Subscriptions bought in the App Store or Google Play are cancelled in your phone's subscription settings.
How do I get a refund?
Within 14 days of your first payment, email us from your account email. See the refund policy for the details.
How do I delete my account?
Follow the steps on the delete your account page.
Troubleshooting
Something not working? Start here.
The green tick doesn't appear on my Mac
GrammarDeck needs the Accessibility permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and make sure GrammarDeck is on.
After an update, macOS sometimes keeps an old entry. Turn GrammarDeck off and on again, or remove it with the minus button and add it back.
Nothing happens when I press the shortcut
- Make sure some text is selected first.
- Check that GrammarDeck is running: look for its icon in the menu bar or the tray.
- Another app may use the same shortcut. Close it and try again.
- On Linux, check that you are on an Xorg session, not Wayland.
The browser button doesn't appear on a page
- Browsers don't let extensions run on their own pages (such as settings or the web store) or in the PDF viewer.
- Pages that were open before you installed the extension need a reload.
- Try the right-click menu or the shortcut instead.
Accept doesn't replace the text on a web page
Accept works in text boxes and editors. If the text can't be edited (a normal paragraph on a page), use Copy and paste the fixed text where you need it.
The iPhone keyboard says it needs Full Access
Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → GrammarDeck and turn on Allow Full Access. Without it, iOS does not let the keyboard reach the internet.
"You've used all your free credits"
The Free plan includes 5 credits a day and up to 100 a month. The daily count resets at midnight UTC (5:30 am in India), the monthly one on the 1st. Upgrade to Pro for 5,000 credits a month.
"You've used your included credits"
Pro includes 5,000 credits a month. When they run out, open your account page (Plan tab → Add credits in the app) and buy a pack, or wait for your monthly reset. Pack credits expire at that reset. The daily limit of 1,000 credits applies to pack credits too.
"Grammar service is unavailable, try again"
The checker didn't answer in time. This is usually brief. Wait a few seconds and try again. If it keeps happening, check your internet connection, then email us.
I can't sign in
- Use the same method you signed up with: Google, Apple or email.
- Forgot your password? Choose Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email you a reset link. Check your spam folder too.
- Accounts made with Sign in with Apple can open the website account page from the app: Plan tab → Upgrade to Pro.
I paid, but the app still shows Free
- Pro usually turns on within a minute. Open the Plan tab again or pull down to refresh.
- Make sure the app is signed in with the same account you paid with. The account page shows which account is signed in.
- Still Free after ten minutes? Email us from your account email and we will sort it out.
